Using books as hooks - how to develop a love for reading within early years

Getting our early years children interested in books!

Outline

Bored with the same old stories? How can we inspire young children with a love of literature?

Description

Explore practical strategies and ways of identifying and using high quality texts which enable children to become confident, happy and enthusiastic readers. In this workshop we will look at the vital importance of talk and how to develop children's oral language skills to support reading. You will come away motivated and inspired to evaluate your current provision for reading and know how to develop so that purpose and progression are at the heart of what you do.

Outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will:
  • Have considered the quality of books and texts in your setting and how to use them to develop a knowledge and love of story and narrative
  • Understand how to use 'books as hooks' to inspire and extend learning
  • Know how to develop a 'book nook' and other practical strategies to inspire reading
