Neurodiversity in the early years setting

All children are unique and individual - are we doing the best for them all?

Outline

Do you have concerns about children that appear a 'little bit different' 'quirky' 'eccentric'…These children might be described as neurologically diverse. In this workshop we will consider neurodiversity and how we can meet our unique children's needs in our EY settings.

Description

In this workshop we will focus on children presenting with unusual traits and consider those children who may have social communication difficulties, ASD or sensory processing difficulties. We will discover how to plan a range of experiences and use of specific interventions to ensure these children are included and achieve the best possible outcomes in the EY setting.

Outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will:
  • Have an increased awareness of neurodiversity
  • Have an understanding of specific interventions to use in your setting
  • Understand how to be fully inclusive and meet the range of needs in your setting
