Many years of research have shown that the outdoors is an essential learning resource for all ages and especially those in the Foundation stage. Some children develop best in an outdoor environment, which is also where others push themselves to the limit of their capabilities. Outdoor play increases children's confidence, promotes problem-solving and collaborative work.
This workshop empowers practitioners, giving them the skills to ensure their outdoor environment aids the development of all of the children in their setting. It also raises practitioners' awareness of the national recommendations for physical activity in Early Years settings and in so doing helps combat the rising obesity rate.
By the end of this workshop you will:
- Understand the importance of outdoor play for children’s health learning and development, bearing in mind national guidance.
- Have reviewed and identified how to enhance your current outdoor learning environment, without it costing you the earth
- Understand the importance of appropriate risky play and of risk assessment in the outdoors
