Think of the 2 year old who is very keen to write - mark making on your walls and on themselves! What happens to that child on their journey to becoming successful writers? How can we in Year R support the mechanics of writing through the stages of physical development from shoulder pivots to precise pencil grips? How can we in Year R capture children's interests and writing needs to motivate them and build their confidence on the journey towards the ELG?
This workshop will take you on a journey through gross motor to fine motor skill development and beyond to the place where we can truly engage and sustain children's interest and excitement to write! We will consider how creativity and imagination are key elements of successful writers and always hold onto the fact that "writing floats on a sea of talk"
By the end of this workshop you will:
- Know how to enthuse children and inspire them to write for real purposes
- Know how to support the physicality of writing
- Have reflected on your continuous provision and environment for writing
