Obesity is a major factor affecting our country and therefore reducing this rising trend is a key priority to address. Childhood obesity levels have soared in recent years, with levels of childhood obesity in England being amongst the highest in the developed world. Children's lifestyle preferences, including their eating and exercise habits are formed early in life and the amount of time they spend in early years settings provides the ideal opportunity to shape healthy choices in their diet and exercise regime. Ofsted have recognised this with their new focus on physical development and healthy eating in the early years.
This workshop will focus on the current guidance, allow you to review your current practice and contain some practical suggestions as to how you can implement this in your setting.
By the end of this workshop you will:
- Have an increased awareness of the current guidance relating to the nutrition and physical exercise in the early years age range
- Have reflected on the exercise and healthy eating options in your setting
- Have an increased knowledge and confidence in ways of encouraging healthy eating and increasing physical activity levels in your setting.
